Dale attended high school in Minneapolis. He worked as an orderly forMinneapolis General Hospital. He enlisted in the Navy and served as aHospital Corpsman. He was in Korea during that conflict as a Medic withthe Marine Corps. While he was in Okinawa, he had a pet monkey namedNick.
He retired from the Navy after 22 years of service and went to workfor the Space Program in Pensacola, Florida where he worked in theVivarium and cared for the space monkeys. He and Dellie raised chowdogs and poodles for some time. Dale developed heart problems and hadseveral bypass surgeries. He died following the fourth bypass surgery in1998.
