Emmaletta Ann Colwell
Emmaletta was a wonderful mother and grandmother and a real LADY.Everything was done well and socially correct. Meals were served soproperly and beautifully. She was very close to her children. Even in1942 when I was introduced to the family, 'Gram' was still grieving thedeath of her daughter Helen who died in 1918. She was especially fond ofgrandson Richard because of his red hair [Helen had beautiful red hair].Gram lived near Marian for many years and was very helpful to her. Shetaught Marian to be an excellent homemaker and mother. 'Gram', Marianand Madeline often shopped and went to lunch together. 'Gram' gave Dickand me a beautiful cut glass celery boat that I have treasured foryears.
In a letter from 'Gram ' dated January 26, 1962, 2214 Emerson AvenueSo., Minneapolis, Minnesota she wrote:
Dear Dickie, Arline and Boys, A few lines that should have been writtenlong ago but my hands and arms are so lame and stiff its hard to hold apen. I think of you so often and do hope you can come home to see methis summer. I want to thank you so much for the lovely gown it came injust right being so soft and so easy to get into. I got another one muchlike it and shall enjoy them a lot. Thanks again and again. I was upand dressed Wednesday for the first time in months. Barbara cameyesterday and cut and fixed my hair up and today I am quite lame. I havean elastic support over my left knee and that helps me to walk better.So maybe I can be up and around some more. Jim and I shure enjoyed youryearly log and how nice it sounds to hear of a family that do thingstogether as so many fathers and mothers don't do that nowadays. So gladyou had the nice trip and visited Dale and Dellie. Well darlins I can'twrite any more now but try and read this. I know its awful.
